Best for Families with Young Children: Noon Year’s Eve at the Children’s Museum

Staying up to midnight on New Year’s Eve can definitely affect the nap schedule on New Year’s Day. Thankfully, the Children’s Museum in downtown Denver puts on a “noon year’s” celebration with countdowns and ball drops on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pint-sized party includes bubble wrap fireworks, rainbow confetti, New Year’s noisemakers, balloons, and entertainment provided by a beatboxer. Prices ranges from $14 to $16, but members get a 50 percent discount.

Best for Families: Enjoy a Night Downtown and Catch Some Fireworks

Denver puts on two free fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve. The shows are identical, with the first one at 9 p.m. and the second at midnight. The fireworks shows are synced with live music from DJs, and runs for about eight minutes. Bundle up, bring some cocoa and find the best viewing spots along the 16th Street Mall. Plenty of restaurants line the 16th Street Mall if you’re looking for a spot to grab dinner before the fireworks show, and it’s a good idea to make reservations in advance. If you’ve got a big group with varying dietary restrictions or tastebuds, check out the nearby Milk Market, one of Denver’s newest food halls. You’ll find a mix of counters serving pasta, pizza, ramen, salads, Nashville hot chicken, poke, bao buns and more.

Best for Sports Lovers: Watch the Avs Play

Denver is a sports lover’s paradise. If your idea of a fun night out involves a good competition, why not hit up a hockey game? You can cheer on the Colorado Avalanche as they square off against the Los Angeles Kings. The game starts at 6 p.m., so there’s still time to catch the downtown fireworks show or a party afterwards. To celebrate the final game of 2018, the Avs are offering two Upper Bowl tickets and two glasses of champagne for $70.

Ready to party like it’s 2019? Resolution is one of Denver’s biggest and most over-the-top New Year’s Eve parties and is staged at the McNichols Building. The 21-and-up party boasts two floors of party experiences, with an open bar, DJs, festival-style lighting and photo scenes (which is like a photo booth, but bigger and more intricate!). VIP tickets are available and grant you all types of perks including early access, catered buffet tables, champagne toasts and access to VIP events. Tickets start at $119.

Best for Couples: Get Dressed up for the White Rose Gala

And the award for Denver’s most glamorous celebration goes to … the White Rose Gala, a Gatsby-esque ball that channels the Roaring 20s. Partygoers come decked out in flapper dresses, sequined headbands, suits and hats. This opulent ball has become a Denver tradition and is staged at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. It has a history of selling out, so it’s a good idea to get tickets online in advance. Tickets start at $99.

Best for Partygoers Wanting a Unique Celebration: Attend an “Alice in Wonderland” Theme Party

If you’re looking to “go mad” in the best of ways, make New Year’s Eve Plans at Carbon Café and Bar in Denver’s historic Confluence Park neighborhood. The bar and eatery is hosting a dreamy “Alice in Wonderland” themed party, with a costumed staff, open bar and plenty of references to Lewis Carroll’s late Victorian story. Go ahead, dress like the Cheshire Cat or Queen of Hearts to this whimsical party. The party starts at 9 p.m., and costs $85, which includes an open bar until midnight, a celebratory champagne toast, and passed appetizers. A DJ will be playing from 9 p.m. to midnight.
